Assignment 4 - Your main Folio

It is now up to you to begin developing a folio which you think will best represent the kind of work you would like to do in your coming career.

You can create a folio which is very strongly similar in terms of style and theme or you can create a series of works which display a variety of skills and styles.

You will need to create one more piece to complete your folio for semester 1. This will give me an idea of how your semester 2 folio will look.

In Semester 2 you will create at least 5 pieces but as many as you like if you want to create more.
Just bear in mind that you have the time to make sure your work is just right, so don't rush to fill a folio with lots of OK stuff. Take the time to fill it with the very best work that you can do.

As usual you will show me sketches for all your work before you proceed to final artwork.

Your first step is to write a brief describing how you want to proceed from here and post it to your blog. Then we will discuss it and tweak it if necessary.

So remember:

Semester 1: The first piece of your folio.

Semester 2: A minimum of 5 pieces.

Areas in which you may want to work:

Magazine editorial

Children's books

Adult books

T-shirt design

Storyboarding

Advertising

Package Design

Character design

Comic books

Comics

Websites

Good luck!

  1. Michael, will you be giving us info and guidelines for writing the briefs? How much detail do they need, what should be included, etc?

    1. Hi Jacqui,
You can use all the briefs which I have given you since last year as reference if you need it, but I'm giving you the chance to set your own goals.
Am I wrong in thinking that you have had instruction on writing briefs in some of your other subjects?

  2. I'm not sure if they have done that yet in Illustration, but I don't take that class anyway. This will be my first time writing my own brief.

  3. If you would prefer it, I can keep writing briefs for you for the rest of the year.
Let me know what you think.
